Axie Infinity is a Play-to-Earn battling game built on the Ethereum blockchain where anyone can earn token rewards through skilled gameplay and contributions to the ecosystem. Inspired by popular games like Pokémon and Tamagotchi, Axie Infinity allows players to collect, breed, raise, battle and trade token-based creatures known as Axies. These Axies can take various forms, and there are more than 500 different body parts available, including aquatic, beast, bird, bug, plant and reptile parts. Parts from each type class come in four different rarity scales: common, rare, ultra rare and legendary — and Axies can have any combination of body parts, making them highly variable and often rare and unique.
Each Axie is a non-fungible token (NFT) with different attributes and strengths and can be entered into 3v3 battles, with the winning team earning more experience (exp) points that are used to level up an Axie's stats or evolve their body parts. These Axies can be bred together to produce new and unique offspring, which can be used or sold on the Axie Marketplace.
To create a better user experience and promote scalability, the Axie Infinity team is building a layer-2 sidechain named Ronin. The project team aims to build a platform that encompasses the characteristics of a social network and jobs platform by creating a strong community and play-to-earn opportunities.
Axie Infinity Shards($AXS) are an ERC-20 governance token for the Axie Universe. AXS holders will be able to claim rewards if they stake their tokens, play the game, and participate in key governance votes. Players will also be able to earn $AXS when they play various games within the Axie Infinity Universe and through user-generated content initiatives.
The AXS token has the following use cases:
- Governance: AXS token holders will be able to stake their tokens and participate in governance votes.
- Staking: Players will be able to stake their AXS to earn weekly rewards.
- Payment: Players can use the AXS token to play games and conduct payments.
The best place to find and access Axies that are available for sale is on the Axie Infinity Marketplace. Here, players can view the Axies that have been listed for sale or those sold to other players most recently. Players can also use the filters within the marketplace to narrow in on Axies that match their desired class, body parts, statistics, price and more.
Players can purchase Axies through their Ronin Wallet, the purpose-built cryptocurrency wallet Sky Mavis created for Axie Infinity. Players can fund their wallet with ETH that they can purchase from an exchange like Kraken.
Axie Infinity is being developed by Sky Mavis which is a technology-focused game studio founded in early 2018. The team consists of 40 full-time employees and has its headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The founding team consists of Trung Nguyen, Aleksander Leonard Larsen, Tu Doan, Andy Ho, and Jeffrey Zirlin.
