Gala Games is a play-to-earn game development company building a robust gaming ecosystem that leverages the power of blockchain technology to empower its users. Gala Games runs on the Ethereum blockchain, and the platform has also partnered with the Polygon network and has successfully bridged to BNB Chain with the p.Network Bridge dApp — allowing players to send and trade their tokens at reduced gas fees. The project also plans to migrate to its own native blockchain (Project GYRI) in the future.
The Gala Games platform includes real-time strategy (RTS), multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), role-playing game (RPG) titles and more. While gameplay differs considerably between titles, each rewards players with digital assets including the GALA cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Players are able to truly own their in-game items in the form of NFT's which can be traded on secondary markets.
Gala Games’ native token is GALA, an ERC-20 token used for in-game purchases and as a medium of exchange between participants interacting within the Gala Games ecosystem. The $GALA token is used to power the in-game economy across all the different games available in the ecosystem as well as incentivizing node operators for supporting and facilitating the network. Players can make in-game purchases with the token or trade peer-to-peer. For instance, in Gala's first game, Town Star, the top players are rewarded in $GALA.
Each year, on the 21st of July, the distribution of GALA will be halved. For example, beginning on July 21st of 2022, the daily distribution of GALA will be 8,561,643 instead of 17,123,286.
Gala Games was created by Eric Schiermeyer and Michael McCarthy in 2019 who intended to develop a gaming ecosystem that gave its users full ownership and control over their in-game assets. Since its inception, Gala Games has put decentralization at the top of their priority which led the team to decide against any type of early distribution such as an initial coin offering or presale to allow for an organic release of the tokens through their node network. To accomplish this, their first course of action was to grow the gaming network through the sale of Founder’s Nodes which make up the core of Gala Games’ ecosystem. These nodes are rewarded with Gala tokens, NFT’s, and governance power.
Project GYRI, as Gala's L1 blockchain is currently known as, is specifically designed to handle the transaction throughput needed for games to grow and scale while providing provable and verifiable ownership to token holders. With the ability to scale horizontally to handle an infinite number of games, Project GYRI is designed to be the backbone of the Gala Ecosystem.
Gala Games relies on the following components to deliver play-to-earn games to their followers:
Gala Nodes
A distributed network of computers operates Gala Games, rather than a centralized server controlled by a single entity.
These participants, referred to as nodes, offer computational resources to the Gala Games’ decentralized gaming network in exchange for rewards. Operators of a Founder’s Node work to secure the platform from fraudulent or malicious behavior, validate transactions and generate GALA assets. Nodes are periodically rewarded for their computational effort with GALA tokens and unique NFTs.
Node operators are able to vote on community proposals and help guide ecosystem development. A Gala Node license can be purchased with the GALA token and is required to operate a Gala Node.
