Ethereum Layer2 network Aztec announced it has chosen Fernet as its sequencer selection protocol to realize the decentralization of sequencers and the permissionlessness of the network.
Fernet is a fully permissionless random leader election protocol proposed by Santiago Palladino, engineer at Aztec. It will be used to decide block building rights for the Aztec rollup, ensuring that all participants have an equal opportunity to contribute. Through decentralized sequencers, Aztec will allow anyone to participate in building blocks and operating the network.
