Berachain, a Layer 1 chain in the Cosmos Ecosystem, has announced the release of their new open-source project, Polaris, a general purpose blockchain framework enabling the integration of the EVM into any underlying consensus layer.
Polaris offers superior support for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compared to existing implementations both within the Cosmos ecosystem and outside of it.
The project claims the current market solutions for connecting the EVM to Cosmos were not up to the standards that Berachain aimed to provide for their users. This led them to build a new alternative to Ethermint from the ground up, making improvements across the board to ensure they can create a vibrant and thriving ecosystem of developers who can leverage their platform to build cutting-edge decentralized applications that are secure, fast, and user-friendly.
One of the key features of Polaris is its ability to seamlessly integrate with other blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem, allowing for the transfer of digital assets and data between different chains. This is made possible through the use of the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, which is built into the Cosmos SDK and enables secure, trustless communication between different blockchains.
What is Berachain?
Berachain is a blockchain protocol built on Cosmos-SDK and designed for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. It is an EVM-compatible L1 blockchain that aims to provide high-performance and scalable smart contract capabilities with a Proof-of-Liquidity consensus mechanism. Berachain also features a unique tri-token system that incentivizes investors, builders, and users to participate in the network.
