Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin shared on Twitter the idea of EIP-4844, a data validation scenario focused on blob-carrying transactions that EVM cannot perform. Proto-danksharding would replace danksharding, a sharding technique in which only one proponent chooses all the transactions and all the data that go into a given slot. Instead of selecting a single proponent for each slice, all transactions and all data in a slot are selected by a single proponent. The proposed solution can be an ad hoc variant, as it includes some implementation of the sharding technique. At the same time, it leads to an increase in data usage as it requires a larger block size. Vitalik proposes to automatically delete blob data every 30 days to prevent the network from overloading the data and memory storage requirements.
