Facebook's parent company Meta plans to launch Threads, a potential competitor to Twitter, on Thursday, which will be connected to Instagram and allow users to log in to the new app using their Instagram accounts, according to BBC News. "Threads is described on the App Store as "Instagram's text-based conversation app" to "discuss everything from the topics you care about today.
Threads look almost identical to Twitter. Being a Meta app, Threads will also hoover up data on your phone, including location data, purchases and browsing history.
During the weekend, Elon Musk announced Twitter would be temporarily limiting the numbe of posts a user can view daily, citing extreme "data scraping". It appears from Meta's Threads app that it will be a free service - and there will be no restrictions on how many posts a user can see.
The move is the latest in a rivalry between Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner Elon Musk.
