According to Optimism latest blog article, the ecosystem developers are working on the Fraud Proof System for the OP Stack, which includes components such as Fault Proof Program (FPP), Fault Proof Virtual Machine (FPVM), and Dispute Game.
Fraud proofs are a validation mechanism used in the Optimistic Rollup solution. During the process of synchronizing Layer 2 data to the Ethereum mainnet, if someone believes that the synchronized data is incorrect (i.e., fraudulent behavior exists), they can issue a challenge during the challenge period. The challenge will then be resolved through Layer 1 smart contract calculations to determine the fraudulent party and impose penalties.
However, Optimism's fraud-proof system has not yet been launched. Without fraud proofs, users have to trust that the data synchronized to Ethereum through Layer 2 is accurate.
