The Cboe BZX exchange has filed 19b-4 filings for VanEck's and Ark Invest/21Shares' spot Ethereum ETFs with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday, which means that the race for launching the first spot Ethereum ETF in the US has begun.
Once the SEC acknowledges the filings, the review process will start, and the SEC needs to make a decision on the applications within up to 240 days. Both ETFs chose Coinbase as the surveillance-sharing partner.
It's worth mentioning that when Ark Invest/21Shares submitted the S-1 filing for its Ark 21Shares Ethereum ETF earlier, the analysts and the media generally called it the first spot Ethereum ETF application. However, VanEck filed the S-1 for VanEck Ethereum ETF as early as 2021.
